We're Home!!!

Thank you for all the emails and well wishes for Carter. He did amazingly well. Our day started at about 6am. We had to be at the Children's Hospital at 7:30am for a 9:30am surgery. I just knew that Carter would freak immediately when we walked in and not stop screaming until they had given him his anesthesia. But, he was only fussy for a short time when we walked in and were being admitted. He definitely didn't like us changing him into the gown, but after that he seemed to really relax. He sat very still while the nurses checked his vitals and then we were off to the play room until they were ready for him. He played very well and especially loved the markers, crayons, puzzles and fruit baskets that they had to play with. At about 9:20 they came to give him some "funny juice" which he takes like medicine and that makes him groggy and kind of silly. For the first few minutes he was acting normal and then all of the sudden one of the nurses kind of smiled at him and he just started cracking up. So, from then on he was pretty giddy. They let one of us go back with him while they put on the laughing gas mask and we decided David could go since I don't think I could handle seeing my sweet baby like that. David came out to the waiting room and then we sat for about 2 hours. (Our cell phone games really came in handy.)

At about 11:30 they called us in to go and see him in the recovery area. We were definitely not prepared to see the monstrous cast that they had put on his arm. When they told us a cast, I invisioned a small cast just to cover the hand. Oh no, this thing goes almost up to his elbow and is covered with a foam cast so he doesn't hit himself in the face. It looks bigger than him! Anyhow, he was a little fussy at first, but after they gave him a little morphine he was very calm and relaxed and pretty much slept until we were able to leave. When we got home, he slept for about 3 1/2 hours and we woke him up to see if he would eat something. After a banana, a nutrigrain bar and a cookie, he was feeling much better and walking around talking and smiling. He is really curious about this thing on his arm and hasn't quite figured out how to grip the sippy cup yet :-)

They want him to wear the cast for about 4 days and we should have results of the biopsy by tomorrow!!! That's amazing since I thought we would have to wait a week.

Here are some pictures of the day. Doesn't he look precious in that little gown?

Thanks for all of your prayers. I really don't know how the day could've gone any better (unless of course he didn't have the surgery at all!!!)

Also, Jackson's taking very good care of his little brother. He comes up to him and scratches his back and tries to walk behind him with his arm around him. It's so cute :-)

Hope to be back tomorrow with good news about the biopsy results!!!
